Minister of Communications, Dr Isa Patanmi, disclosed in a tweet on Thursday 12th September, that he has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission to immediately block the unregistered SIM cards.

According to the minister, all unregistered SIM cards would remain blocked until their users present themselves.

“As at today, preliminary investigation revealed, we have 9.2 million unregistered SIM cards in Nigeria, I have directed the NCC to immediately block those numbers until the users present themselves,” the minister tweeted.

In order not to fall into the victim, it is important to check if your SIM has been properly registered or not.

Here is how you can confirm your mobile number(s) registration status to avoid being blocked by NCC.

MTN – dial *789*1#
Airtel – dial *746#
9mobile – dial 746 or 200
Glo – text REG to 746 or 3456

Once your SIM card is free for information update, you will receive a message like the one in the below screenshot.
